The monthly cap on medical costs, the medical expense deduction, and your health insurance options.
1. A large hospital bill
With public health insurance, what you pay each month is capped by income. Use your My Number Card at the hospital to pay only up to the cap.
2. Getting tax back
Medical costs over ¥100,000 in a year, including costs paid abroad, reduce your income tax and resident tax through a tax return.
3. If you have to stop working
Check your health insurance options after leaving a job and whether unemployment benefits apply.
