About Manesimu

What we do

Manesimu is the English edition of マネシミュ, a Japanese site of money calculators. The English edition focuses on people who live and work in Japan, and explains the Japanese systems behind each number instead of assuming you already know them.

How the numbers are checked

• Every rate comes from official Japanese sources: the National Tax Agency, the Japan Health Insurance Association (Kyokai Kenpo), the Japan Pension Service, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. Each calculator lists its sources.
• The calculations are shared with our Japanese site and tested against worked examples published by these agencies.
• When rates change (most change in March or April each year), we update the calculators and the "Last updated" date.
